Alternative App Store for BB10

Talking about Android since it's an Open Source OS Developed by Google.There could be numerous amount of apps that can be installed in it from various developers. 

While the BB10 works on the BlackBerry 10 OS which is closed source but thanks to BlackBerry 10.3.x. version software update till now, Now on BlackBerry can also be somewhat open source by installing some FREE AND OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE - FOSS in it. 

Yes you heard it right. The App Store which we are talking in this section is not Google Play Store or any other Android App Store but its Free and Open Source based App Store named as " F-Droid " 

F-Droid is simple app store actually a catalogue of Free and Open Source Apps for Android Platform but can be installed successfully on a BB10 device. Its a Client which makes it easy to browse, install, and keep track of the updates for the apps.

There is a restriction for BlackBerry 10 users on Google Play Store for they can't run Google Play Services based Android Apps so why not shift to F-Droid which is totally Open Source Based and Does not rely on Google Play Services. 

Even the Amazon App Store is not up-to mark some bugs and unsupported apps are there in it.

While F-Droid is operated by F-Droid Limited which is a Non-Profit organization

Here below are some screen-shots from a BlackBerry 10 Device installing and running F-Droid Store. While installing wait for updating repositories after then only apps will be displayed and you can install them successfully on any BB10 device.

In the latest update UI and look is cooler than before and there are Various in-app sections such as 'Latest' , 'Category' , 'Nearby' , 'Updates' , 'Settings'.

Note: But It doesn't mean all apps are compatible with your BB10 Device on F-Droid. The main restrictions here are that of Android Run-time for BB10 is now quite old 4.x something so to run latest apps some developers develops android apps based on Android Lollipop 5.x as the least support or works on Android 5.0 and above.
But don't worry those apps on F-Droid which are not compatible for your BB10 devices will be marked as 'Incompatible'. 

Since BB10 will be reaching its EOL - End Of Life after some time. Or even some believe it has already reached its EOL and moreover there is no support being provided from BlackBerry. 

Apart from F-Droid in our next post we will bring another Android App Store for BB10 devices which is just 2.3MB package and will install and download apk files directly from Google Play without login id. Yes you heard it right its Called 'Yalp' Store.
