Initially it was released on January 19, 1999 as version 1.0 for BlackBerry 850- 'Pager'
Pager BlackBerry 850 with this handheld device BlackBerry OS (RIM) made its debut some 18 years ago.

Though BlackBerry discontinued its BlackBerry OS but will continue to support BlackBerry OS.
Later in September, 2010 BlackBerry announced their new Operating System popularly known as " BlackBerry 10" which is based on QNX a Unix-like Operating System.
Presently:
Though BlackBerry 10 (BB10) is still in working state, being developed but didn't gained much attention as Android OS which rules the present day mobile market.
Though BB10 has inbuilt android player and can support android apps but mainly due to app gap BlackBerry is still lagging behind.
We know Google Play and Apple's App Store offers numerous number of applications and BlackBerry World is far behind. But wait since Amazon App Store integration in latest BB 10.3 ver. was a smart move but still many important apps are still missing. Though BlackBerry 10 can install android .apk files directly but to do so, apk files must be from trusted source and moreover Google Play Services are still not supported by BlackBerry 10 natively and many apps depends on such services to work smoothly.
Seeing all the above problems and App Gap Issues and Google Services issues BlackBerry released the below list of fully Android Devices and full Google support as these are Powered by Android.
- BlackBerry Priv
- BlackBerry DTEK50
- BlackBerry DTEK60
- DTEK 70/MERCURY/BlackBerry KEYone (Android 7.1)*
- These devices run on Android OS with a focus on privacy and security.
Now with Android Powered devices BlackBerry could hope for a bright future but isn't it late to release an android powered device when in market their are tough competitors like One Plus, Xiaomi, Samsung, Sony, Huawei, HTC, Oppo, Vivo, Lenovo, Motorola, Asus, etc.
Let's see what comes next......................
